THE BOND WITH THE LAND To turn now the agricultural aspects of the muscatel industry, in the area where muscatel is originated 6,500 families, mostly indipendent growers, work vineyards covering approximately 24,400 acres and produce about 650,000 hectolitres, that is 65 milion litres, of must per year.

This is the very firm bond between the moscato and the land and character of its people. It is a grape and wine that totally absorb and reveal the culture of those farmers.

The growers' association, "Produttori di Moscato d'Asti Associati s.c.a.", includes among its members approximately 3,000 of these vinegrowing businesses, whose d.o.c.. production represents more then 50% of the total production.

Another positive aspect about the Moscato which should not be forgotten is the inter-professional agreement governing transaction in raw materials (grapes and must) between the growers and the industrialists. This contact is unique in the Italian wine-producing industry. It was signed in the seventies and today enoys the guarantees affrorded by the national framwork laws covering farming agreements.

This developement confers upon the Piedmontese muscatel a leadership position within the Italian winegrowing industry.
